Coronavirus or COVID-19 has continuously been spreading through major countries in the world – China, Japan, Italy, London, India, US, and many others. With about 380,000 cases in the world, Coronavirus has already taken more than 16,500 lives. Now, high stakes poker player David Sands has tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus as well. While he took to Twitter to explain his condition and symptoms last Sunday, he said that he’d started showing symptoms for it since the Monday previous to that.

He mentioned that he is 35 years old and has no pre-existing medical conditions and rarely smokes or drinks. He also mentioned that he follows a healthy lifestyle. This is a good myth buster for those who think Coronavirus can be contracted only by people who are over 60 years old and have pre-existing medical conditions. Regardless of your age or lifestyle, no one is immune to Coronavirus and can contract it if they have’t been following preventative measures properly.

David Sands mentioned feeling incredibly tired and exhausted on Monday and developing a light cough by Tuesday. After his symptoms began to increase in intensity by Thursday, he got the Coronavirus diagnostic test and was tested positive two days later. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control), the common symptoms for Coronavirus are all in line with the symptoms David Sands had – cough, fever, extreme exhaustion, and in some very serious cases, difficulty in breathing.

Sands shall remain in quarantine till he tests negative for COVID-19

David mentioned that he has been doing well and hasn’t yet turned into a high-risk Coronavirus patient. He talked on Twitter about how he has been following all measures lined by the CDC and WHO, including staying in self quarantine, washing hands regularly, and not touching the face repeatedly.

Sands has been very proactive and open about his condition and went on to explain in a 13-Tweet thread about how his symptoms progressed over the last week and what led him to finally go for the diagnostic Coronavirus test.

David Sands on contracting the deadly Coronavirus:

I recognize that Coronavirus will impact people in higher-risk demographics more severely than it impacted me. It’s encouraging to know that the symptoms should be mild for most healthy adults. I am quarantining until I get a negative test result back. I’m glad to answer any questions about my experience.

It is a slow road to recovery

Sands hasn’t been on the poker circuit for a while, but has amassed over $8.5 million in life earnings. His most recent significant win was in 2013 when he won $1.02 million at the World Poker Tour Championship Super High Roller.

David Sands is not sure how exactly he contracted the Coronavirus since he had been socially distant ever since the news of the virus broke. His best bet is having contracted it at the grocery store and only hopes that the symptoms will eventually fade away and he’ll test negative soon. He is yet another example of a healthy and young person getting infected with the Coronavirus; it is important now that each and every one of us understand the depth and gravity of the situation and do everything we can to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

No one is immune from the virus and it is crucial at this point than ever to stay highly alert and self quarantine ourselves so that we can put a halt to the community outbreak of the virus. Stay safe!
