Filotimo Casino in Dover Filotimo Casino to Undergo Expansion

It has been revealed that a popular bowling alley in New Hampshire will be closing and is to be taken over by a casino located nearby.

The property will be revamped under new plans by the Filotimo Casino, and it will be reopened after the renovations under a different name. This will be a big change for the residents of Dover, New Hampshire, with the iconic bowling alley closing its doors and making room for the expansion of the nearby casino.

According to a report in Foster’s Daily Democrat, the current Filotimo Casino will undergo a transformation, rebranding itself as Revo Casino and Social House following the expansion. The renovation project is scheduled for completion in the summer months.

Officials have said that there will be a comprehensive overhaul, and there will be facilities such as dining options, entertainment facilities, and an array of gambling options. It was also revealed that the revamped casino will retain its DraftKings sportsbook, which first debuted at the Filotimo Casino premises back in 2021.

A Charitable Gaming Facility

The expansion is said to be the result of both customer feedback and the commitment of the gaming establishment to support charitable causes. The New Hampshire Group, which owns the bowling alley and casino, emphasized the charitable nature of the facility in a recent statement.

An official from NHG said that the facility aimed to help raise funds for charitable causes in the area. The statement read:

This expansion will allow our charitable partners to increase their revenue while additionally, providing our guests with a new dining concept, live entertainment space, and radio broadcast studio with more information coming soon.

In accordance with regulations, Filotimo Casino has consistently contributed to various nonprofits across New Hampshire. In 2023 alone, NHG’s donations exceeded $9 million, benefiting around 300 approved charitable organizations.

Recent coverage by New Hampshire Public Radio highlighted the vital role played by charitable casinos in the state. Generally, these establishments have to allocate 35 percent of their proceeds toward supporting approved nonprofits within New Hampshire.

Some Disappointment Over Closure of Bowling Alley

Following the announcement of these plans, there has been some disappointment expressed about the closure of the bowling alley. Reports indicate that sections of the alley, including several lanes and an arcade, have already been dismantled. The alley is located within Dover’s Shaws Plaza Shopping Center, and it is scheduled to close operations on April 29 this year.

One of those to express his disappointment was the Dover Mayor, Bob Carrier. He recently spoke about the impending loss of the bowling alley, highlighting its status as a local fixture and a venue for many people.

However, others have said that although this marks the end of an era for bowling enthusiasts, it also marks a new chapter in the city’s entertainment scene. For many, an expanded casino will bring excitement and a new wave of entertainment to the area and could also result in a boost in employment opportunities, both during the renovation and when the new facility opens.
