Many people will be gearing up for the WPT World Championship in Las Vegas this year.

The hugely popular poker tournament brings people from around the world to Las Vegas, and there could be even more interest this year after a huge prize pool was announced. The event is set to take place at Wynn Las Vegas and will run from November 29th until December 23rd.

According to reports, the prize pool for this year is a guaranteed $40 million, which is way higher than other years. In comparison, the guaranteed prize pool for last year’s event was $15 million, which was then the largest prize pool in the history of live poker tournaments.

Reaching New Heights with Huge Prize Pool

Officials from WPT said that the event is set to reach new heights and that it would be even more exciting and popular given the increased prize pool that has been announced.

The CEO of WPT, Adam Pilska, said that the event at the Wynn Las Vegas:

…is poised to reach new heights and we wanted to match that expectation with a guarantee that no live poker tournament has ever seen before. The journey to December begins now, and we plan on giving players another unforgettable experience at Wynn Las Vegas.

The main event of the tournament is the WPT World Championship, which will run from 12-21 December. The last table standing at the event will be broadcast live on television.

There were close to 3,000 entrants for the WPT World Championship last year, which resulted in a gigantic prize pool of more than $29 million – nearly double the guaranteed prize pool. The grand prize of more than $4 million was taken home by Canadian player Eliot Hudon.

Great for the Las Vegas Area

The run-up to the event, as well as the period over which the tournament takes place, are set to be very exciting for Las Vegas.

Casinos, bars, restaurants, and other businesses stand to do very well this year as a result of an influx of visitors to the area.

The Grand Prix event in mid-November will bring in huge numbers of people to the area, and just a couple of weeks later, the poker tournament begins. This means that Las Vegas is set to enjoy a very busy period during the latter part of November and December.

The influx of visitors to Las Vegas for these events means that more people will be booking hotels and enjoying the thrills of the city’s famous casinos.

People will also be dining out and enjoying drinks during their time in Las Vegas, and some will undoubtedly get some Christmas shopping time in as well. So, even retail businesses will enjoy the benefits of increased visitor numbers during this period. This means businesses in Las Vegas could end the year on a financial high.

Of course, it also means good news for the state, as the increase in visitors will boost tourism and spending, which helps to increase tax revenues.
