Long-awaited Crosswinds Casino expansion is now in motion Kansas Casino to Undergo Expansion

According to recent reports, a Kansas casino is set to undergo expansion after delays of three years. The Crosswinds Casino in Park City, Kansas, will finally be extended by the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma after a court decision to allow the tribe to offer gaming on its land.

The decision came from the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, which upheld a decision made by the Department of the Interior earlier this month.

The casino opened its doors in 2021, and it was originally meant to be a temporary casino facility. As a small casino, the tribe was due to begin working on a larger facility.

The Wyandotte Nation Chief, Billy Friend, said:

You know our plans are to build a casino resort. We have 10 and a half acres that have been taken in trust for gaming, and then we also have another 100, approximately 125 acres.

Delays with the expansion were caused after the State of Kansas contested the Department of the Interior’s decision to allow the tribe to offer gaming on its land. The original decision by the department has now been upheld, which means that plans can move forward.

Project to Be in Phases

Officials have said that the project to expand the premises will be in a number of phases, with speculation that it will be three to four different phases. The first phase is likely to focus on the full casino with restaurant facilities, and this could take up to two years.

In addition to the casino expansion, the tribe also has plans to expand the hotel, which they bought and remodeled this year. This will form part of the second phase of the expansion project that they have planned.

What remains of the tribe’s land will also be opened up for other developments, with the tribe being well aware of the potential for real estate development.

While planning out the expansion of the casino and hotel, the tribe is currently also in the middle of changing its gaming compact with the federal government. This is to provide permission to offer card gaming and perhaps even sports betting. Tribal officials hope to see all of this sorted out at the same time as the casino extension.

A Great Opportunity for the Tribe

If everything goes to plan, the expansion will provide many great opportunities for the tribe. Once completed, the new venue will offer more entertainment and options for its customers, and it will provide a better experience for hotel guests.

There will also be additional opportunities and benefits that come with the court’s recent decision. Now that the tribe can move forward with the expansion, it will mean more employment opportunities for construction workers while the various phases of the project are taking place. In addition, it will create more jobs for people in the local community once the expansion has been completed.

On top of this, the expansion could help to bring more visitors to the area, which could mean a boost in tourism.
