Details have recently been released about more casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip reopening following the COVID-19 lockdown. While many of the huge resorts on the Strip have already opened their doors again, some still remain closed at present. However, some of these will open their doors over the coming weeks.

Like in most other states across the country, Nevada casinos were forced to shut down temporarily in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak. As the lockdown continued, casinos remained closed until June, when the go-ahead was finally given for the resorts and properties to reopen with strict new measures in place. These included social distancing and increased hygiene among other things.

Mirage and Tropicana Announce Opening Dates

The iconic Mirage has now been closed for five months, but it has revealed that it plans to reopen on August 27th. The resort is owned by MGM, which also has other properties on the Las Vegas Strip.

The Mirage does have a poker room, and this has become popular with players over the years. However, no indication has been given as to whether the 12-table card room will reopen along with the casino resort at the end of August.

Officials from the Mirage, which was built by Steve Wynn in the late 1980s, have said that stringent new measures will be put into place prior to reopening to ensure the safety of staff and patrons. The capacity will be limited to 50%. As per Nevada regulations, patrons will also have to wear a face mask while spending time at the casino.

Another big resort on the Strip that has not yet opened is the Tropicana, another popular property on the south end of the Strip. This casino resort has announced that it will be opening in time for Labor Day, with the doors scheduled to open on September 1st.

Park MGM Remains Closed

While the Mirage is pressing ahead with its plans for reopening, another of MGM’s Strip resorts, Park MGM, remains closed. Previously known as the Monte Carlo, Park MGM currently has no opening date scheduled.

The company has written to employees to advise them of the situation and has made it clear that there is no date in mind for reopening this particular resort as yet. In the letter to employees, the company said that it was impossible to provide any further details with any level of certainty at present. It went on to state:

Since the start of reopening our properties, we have said that this would be a long process and that we would continually re-evaluate in coordination with business demands, and in keeping with our health and safety guidelines.

This means that by the time Labor Day rolls around, Park MGM will be the only casino resort on the Strip that remains closed. MGM Resorts has nine casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip, and no explanation has been given as to why Park MGM is the only one to remain closed for the foreseeable future.
