Partypoker has announced that it will host a charity event to help raise money for its network of freelance poker dealers who are struggling because of the effects of the coronavirus. With a majority of casinos shutting their doors, live poker is on lockdown, and self-employed dealers are struggling to get paid.

Partypoker has stepped in to help by hosting a tournament, “Grand Prix 4 Dealers,” which is scheduled to run online from April 26 through May 3, 2020. Participants will have to pay an entry fee of $55, all of which will be donated to the cardroom’s network of freelance dealers. According to Partypoker, every penny of the collected registration fees will be evenly distributed among the self-employed dealers.

Donations to support poker dealers from big names in the industry

To be more specific, the aim is to raise $122,000 through the online multi-table tournament. If this number is reached, Rob Yong, Partypoker advisor, has pledged to match the amount. This means that a total of $244,000 would be raised through Grand Prix 4 Dealers.

Yong is the owner of Dusk Till Dawn, the popular UK card room. He is aware of the challenges that poker dealers are facing currently, and his sizable donation would go a long way in easing the struggles of freelance dealers during this pandemic.

Yong isn’t the only big name in poker to make donations in support of dealers. Sam Trickett, a famous British high roller legend, has also generously donated $5,000 from his own pockets.

High-end poker service company Triton Poker has also donated as much as $50,000 to Partypoker’s charity drive. This will surely go a long way into making sure that the target of reaching $122,000 is reached and Yang can double the amount.

Supporters like yourself can also make donations, or if you are a poker player, you can choose to make your donation through the $55 entry fee for the tournament.

Partypoker to host Irish Open Online

The overwhelming support for poker dealers isn’t the only big news that Partypoker has had recently. The popular cardroom has also announced that it will be hosting 2020 Irish Open, much to the delight of fans everywhere.

With the coronavirus rapidly spreading, casinos are closing down, and public events are either postponed or canceled. Live poker tournaments have also hit the pause button or have been canceled, while some operators have decided to move their event online.

One such event that has been moved online is 2020 Irish Open, which is one of the oldest poker tournaments in Europe. Partypoker will now host the tournament from April 6 to April 12, 2020.

Speaking of the decision to partner with Partypoker, JP McCann from the Irish Open said that considering the uncertainty of the current situation, they have decided that the best decision is to cancel the live festival for this year and instead, move online.

Commenting on the partnership, Managing Director of Partypoker, Tom Waters, said:

We are delighted to be associated with Europe’s oldest poker festival. The Irish Open is a truly unique event and following the disappointment of its cancellation this year, an online Irish Open festival looks a perfect fit for both event organizers and Partypoker.
