Following its July meeting, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has announced the issuance of three fines totaling $67,500 to Pennsylvania casinos. The three consent agreements have been signed off by regulators, with fines being issued for a number of regulatory breaches. The fines and consent agreements are aimed at ensuring the state’s gaming environment remains safe and regulated.

The three casinos that received the financial penalties were Mohegan Pennsylvania, which received the heftiest fine, Rivers Philadelphia, and Rivers Casino Pittsburgh. Regulators have become increasingly strict about gaming properties breaching regulations, and the fines are often hefty, although this depends on the nature of the breach.

A Variety of Issues Leading to Fines

Between the three casino properties, there were several regulation breaches that led to the fines being issued by the PGCB.

The biggest fine went to Mohegan Pennsylvania, which was fined $50,000 for letting underage guests on the casino floor. It is claimed that the casino allowed people aged under 21 onto the casino floor on a number of occasions.

One underage person is said to have used another person’s valid identification in order to play blackjack. The person admitted to being underage when questioned, and security footage showed that he had also been on the casino floor four previous times. Another underage person used someone else’s valid ID to get drinks from various places in the casino.

The casino has taken a variety of steps to prevent further violations from occurring and has managed a long stretch of 500 days since any underage people were found to be on the casino floor.

Rivers Philadelphia Pays for Dealer Violations

Another casino to receive a fine was Rivers Philadelphia, and this fine was imposed as a result of violations by a dealer. The fine was $7,500 and was imposed after the dealer stopped the roulette ball mid-spin, and then picked it up and put it in the slot for number 20 on the wheel.

The dealer then requested to put the number 20 as the winning number by asking for help from a supervisor.

It was found that the dealer was not trained on the roulette table and had previously been involved in card games. Because of the actions of the dealer, patrons netted incorrect winnings of $2,775.

A report at Play Pennsylvania stated:

In response, Rivers Philadelphia officials noted that an investigation revealed that no collusion had occurred, and it was simply a case of dealer error. They also noted that both the roulette dealer and the supervisor who were involved in the incident are no longer working for the casino.

The Rivers Casino Pittsburgh was the third to receive a fine, and this was due to an underage patron being on the casino floor having used a fake ID. The problem only came to light after his friend also tried to gain entry to the casino floor with a fake ID, and when challenged admitted that his friend was already gaming on the floor.

According to reports, the minor who managed to get onto the casino floor at Rivers Casino was charged and also received a lifetime ban from the casino.
