The Borgata Spring Poker Open, one of New Jersey’s premier live poker events, has been shifted to an online platform amid the Coronavirus outbreak. With casinos and resorts shutting down indefinitely, the event will now be held as an online series to be powered by Partypoker US from April 5 to 12. The tournament comprises 17 scheduled events and comes with prize money of $400,000. The poker event was originally going to be hosted by Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City.

The official statement by Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa on their company blog:

We know that for many of you, Borgata is your escape. We miss entertaining you. We hope that you and your loved ones are healthy, well, and are finding moments of happiness at home. Borgata will reopen as soon as it is appropriate and safe to do so.

It’s been quite a while since Partypoker US hosted an online poker event. In 2018, they held the Garden State Super Series that guaranteed over $450,000 in prize money. Given the Coronavirus pandemic, they decided not to cancel the event but shift it online.

They are offering a buy-in as low as $5 for their low tier events hoping to get more players. High tier buy-ins start from $109 and go up to $1,060. While No Limit Hold’em will make up for most of the series, there are also a few 7 Card Stud and Omaha events.

Two other big poker tournaments have also been scheduled for the same dates – New Jersey Spring Championship of Online Poker ($1.2 million in prize money) and PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker ($2 million in prize money). Partypoker US is still expecting to get a decent turnout for its online event.

Partypoker US has been promoting the Spring Poker Open since January. With the tournament now revamped as an online one, they hope to get an even higher number of players than before.
